Kolkata, June 30 The Trinamool Congress today said that it would intensify its protest against the Tata Motors’ small car project towards the end of this week after the formation of the panchayat samity in Singur.

Trinamool leader Becharam Manna said the Singur panchayat samity would not cooperate with the project officials unless the company would return the surplus land to the farmers. He said the samity would not renew the project licence and may also stop the water supply to the project site.

Manna added that the electricity connection would be installed soon at the project site. But the villagers would not allow the company to erect electricity poles on their lands. He said the protest would be held after July 3 to avoid the arrest of local leaders as it might jeopardise the formation of panchayat samiti. Out of 45 seats, the Trinamool Congress has bagged 37 seats in Singur panchayat samity. At the gram panchayat level, it has won 15 of the 16 seats, while CPM has won only one seat.
