Kumartuli warehouses gutted in fire

Kolkata, June 30 Around 10 hosiery godowns and factories were gutted in a major fire that broke out in Kumartuli on Monday morning. The godowns were located inside an old-building on Bonomali Sarkar Lane.

Eleven firetenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. Firefighters took around five hours to bring the fire under control. Since the building was situated on a narrow lane, the job of the firefighters had become difficult. The cause of the fire is not known. “We will ask the forensic department to investigate the matter,” said Dipak Sarkar, divisional officer of the fire brigade. Locals said that properties worth Rs 10 lakh were destroyed in the fire
