Two candidates turned up for a counseling session of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) with fake rank cards at Science City Auditorium on Monday.
The two candidates, Kaji Pervej Alam from Kolkata and Ritwik Banerjee from Varanasi tried to forge their entry to an engineering college.
Both the candidates were handed over to the officials of Parama Investing Centre of Kolkata police for further inquiry. D P Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, South 24 Parganas, however, claimed that the board has not registered a case owing to which they cannot detain the candidates.
According to the officials of the Board, Alam was ranked 6,276 in the AIEEE but came to the counselling centre with a rank card of 4,767. Bannerjee on the other hand secured 5,49,424 rank but showed a rank card with the last digit of the rank missing.
When the two candidates showed their fake rank cards, the system displayed the details of the candidates who have actually scored the rank. The counseling process was stalled for about an hour because of the hue and cry created when the candidates with fake rank cards were identified.
“We have taken adequate preventive measure to stop any impostor candidate,” said Siddhartha Datta, chairman, JEE.
Ten percent seats in the colleges are reserved for the students from AIEEE. This year the Board did not send any rank card by posts. All the rank cards were downloaded from the boards website.
