Chandigarh, July 06 It’s not chronic renal failure but the problem of arranging the money for his treatment that bothers Rakesh Kumar. At the department of Nephrology, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Research (PGIMER), where he is presently admitted, the doctors have advised him to undergo a kidney transplant. But this labourer from a remote village in Nawada in Bihar has already undergone an unsuccessful transplant four years ago. Frequently put on dialysis, he now awaits good samaritans to bail him out of his difficult times.

“Doctors have estimated a cost of Rs 3 lakh for the surgery and the post operation medicines. I have been ill for so many years now and arranging this huge amount appears like an impossible task. I have nowhere to go and have already exhausted all the savings on the treatment so far,” he said, while talking to Newsline.

Apart from worrying about his disease, Kumar has a family to look after. In pain most of the times, he worries about his small son and a daughter.

“My daughter is four-and-a-half year old and my son is just two years old. They are too young to find a footing for themselves and all the burden has thus shifted on my wife who runs from pillar to post to arrange for my medicines while taking care of the house. But even her efforts come to a dead end with all out monetary resources fully exhausted now,” said Kumar.

The family is now staying at the PGI sarai awaiting for help from some generous people who are willing to extend financial help to the family.
