Being set up by US-based KPC Healthcare Services and Facilities, on a 45-acre plot in Jadavpur, KPC Medical College will start its session from September.
“We have received a formal permission from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday. A couple of days ago, we had also received a state government order regarding the fee structure. So, we are finally ready to open,” said Dr Mohan Seal, vice-president of KPC Medical College.
The medical college, with an investment of Rs 300 to 500 crore, is going to be the first public private partnership project in the health sector.
According to the fee structure formalised by the state government, a student who gets admission through Joint Entrance Examination will have to pay Rs 50,000 per semester in addition to the admission fee, the hostel charges and caution money.
In the last few years, the Medical Council of India had thrice rejected the college’s application on various grounds including the fee structure.
KPC had first applied to the Medical Council of India for its approval in 2006. After initial inspections, when the college could not fulfill a few requirements, the permission got delayed. Finally, the application was cleared after another inspection.
