“It was initially given just four weeks but later on with the request of the members it was extended by a year. The report has been accepted by the university and is being made public for the next one month to draw suggestions from all fronts,” said Rahat Abrar, official spokesperson of the university.
“We are waiting for the response from all ends in the coming month and then the implementation process will begin,” said Abrar.
While printed copies of the report have been forwarded to members of the faculty, executive council and the academic council, it has also been made available on the university’s website.
As for the appointment of the vice-chancellor, the committee has observed that while selection process is free of government interference, no provision exists for a search committee in the selection of the vice-chancellor. Thus, the committee has recommended formation of a search committee for selecting eligible candidates for the post of vice-chancellor.
In order to do away with the perception that the authorities are biased towards the selection of the candidates from the state itself, the committee has recommended an All-India entrance test.
The report has also recommended that the university should attract more foreign students by making the admission process less cumbersome.
Other recommendations:
* Self-appraisal of teachers and their evaluation by the students
* Starting special courses on English language and Indian Culture for foreign students.
* Initiate efforts to start faculties of nanotechnology, pharmacy or college of nursing
* University should participate in National as well as global ranking of universities.
* Creating a corpus fund to attract funds from AMU alumni worldwide as well as others
