Grover was allegedly stabbed to death by Susairaj’s friend and Naval officer Emile Jerome at her flat in Malad on May 8. The duo is then believed to have cut his body into several pieces and disposed it of in the jungles of Manor in rural Thane district. Jerome too is in custody. While opposing the bail plea, Special Public Prosecutor R V Kini narrated the entire incident to judge S T Mahajan and detailed how Jerome flew in from Kochi and stabbed Grover to death. The prosecution said Grover’s body was cut into “250 - 300 pieces” and later disposed of.
In his argument, Kini revisited the case starting with a sketch narration of how the attack must have taken place and how Grover’s body was later disposed of. “We have enough circumstantial evidence to prove that Susairaj was part of both, the conspiracy and the murder,” said Kini. He also cited Susairaj’s confessional statement given before a magistrate to point towards her role in the crime.
Though Susairaj’s lawyers have maintained throughout that she had only aided her friend Jerome in disposing of the body, the prosecution said her conduct implied that she had no remorse whatsoever.
The defence told the court that till the confessional statement was made available to the defence, they could not proceed. “We had sought for access to Susairaj’s confessional statement. Only once we get an access to her confession would be able to argue on the legality of the case,” said Susairaj’s lawyer Nittin Pradhan in the court. Susairaj had argued that at most she could be charged with destruction of evidence, a bailable offence.
