Kolkata, July 31 “Money and muscle power is destroying parliamentary democracy that exists in this country,” said Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Thursday. He exhorted all to protect democracy against such menace.

The chief minister was speaking during the unveiling of the portrait of late parliamentarian Hiren Mukherjee in the Assembly.

“Parliamentary democracy is going through a tough time. Several malpractices have sneaked into the system,” he said while referring to the alleged bribing of BJP parliamentarians in return for support to the UPA government during the trust vote.

The chief minister heaped praise on Mukherjee, who was a professor of history, a legal expert and an eminent parliamentarian.
