Kolkata, August 07 A lovelorn couple, desperate to get married, created quite a scene at the Park Street police station in Kolkata today.

The Hindu boy and the Muslim girl, barely out of their teens, refused to be persuaded by anyone at the police station.

They left hand in hand, even as the girl’s father and the police officers sat still, watching them go off in a cab.

The girl, who had just turned 18, had eloped with her Hindu lover in order to get married to him.

Unable to find his daughter, her father, Munna, lodged a missing complaint with the police this morning. However, in a dramatic turn of events, the couple appeared in the police station in the evening, and said they were not missing, but had eloped to serve the marriage registration notice today.

The officers at the Park Street police station intervened and tried to settle the dispute by talking to their family members.

But the youth’s family members refused to come to the police station.

The officers then tried to persuade the couple, but they were not in a mood to listen to anything.

Munna insisted that his daughter should not be allowed to stay with the youth. He also threatened that the police could take action against him.

However, they paid little heed.

Eventually, both left the police station after giving a written undertaking.
