Kolkata, August 07 Mizzima News, one of the largest undercover news agencies of Myanmar, on Thursday, celebrated its 10th anniversary of dedicated reporting. It also commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Myanmarese uprising.

Along with a photo exhibition, documentaries were screened depicting its 10-year-old journey. The news agency was started by three exiled Myanmar nationals in India.

“We wanted to expose the violence and torture that the military junta unleashed in Myanmar where no democracy existed,” said Soe Myint, founder and editor-in-chief, Mizzima News.

Till date, freedom of press in Myanmar does not exist. Only a few private news services are allowed to operate, Myint said .

“On this occasion, we have released our second book which outlines the first-hand experiences of one of Mizzima’s correspondents during the 2007 and 2008 violence,” said Noah Deezi, a Mizzima supporter.
