Kolkata, August 12 After being unable to trace the youths who had allegedly sent a terror email from a cyber cafe in Kolkata, the police are now interrogating cafe owners Kaushik Basu and his maid Sabitri Dandapat for further leads into the case.

During the interrogation Sabitri had told police that unidentified youths had used the cyber cafe in Salt Lake to send the email.

“We are probing into the incident. Interrogation is still on. We are yet to find the mysterious youths who according to Sabitri had sent the mail. On Wednesday, Kaushik will be produced before a court,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, detective department, Jawed Shamim said.

On July 29, an email sent to police had warned of explosions at several places in Kolkata and Salt Lake after 10 pm. Following this, the entire city and suburbs were wrapped in a security blanket.

That same night the police traced the email to a cyber cafe in Salt Lake. The owner, Kaushik, son of a former East Bengal footballer, was arrested along with Sabitri.

Sabitri’s statement that unidentified youths had sent the email from there led the police into a search mode. The sleuths made a sketch of the youths based on Sabitri’s statements and extensively searched various areas in Kolkata and Salt Lake. The search, however, bore no fruit and police officers are now looking into the possibility whether Kaushik and Sabitri have duped them.

“There is a possibility that the duo has misled us to save themselves,” said an officer of the detective department.
