Kolkata, August 13 Despite police claims of tight security blanket in the city, a serious security breach took the state legislative assembly members by surprise.

On Wednesday, a stranger was caught sitting in the Well of the House alongside the MLAs.

He was spotted by the Speaker, Hashim Abdul Halim who inquired: “ Are you a newly-elected member?”

According to Assembly sources, the Speaker first saw the man in the afternoon, sitting in the well on his left along with some Trinamool Congress legislators.

The Marshall in the House promptly detained him.

Interrogation established that he was Bichitro Sarkar (40), a resident of Bishnupur, Malda. He had come to watch the proceedings of the House and a first-timer, he did not know where to sit.

He was carrying a pass issued in the name of CPM legislator from Malda’s Habibpur, Khagen Murmu.

How he bypassed the tight security inside the Assembly was a mystery and the incident sent the security officers in the Assembly in a tizzy and security cover in and around the House was increased.

The Speaker directed the officials to detain the man till the proceedings of the House were over. And pulling up Murmu, he directed that no visitor’s pass will be issued in his name for the next 15 days.
