Earlier, annoyed locals assaulted Haldar, and took to the streets, demanding action against him and his wife Rani.
“Relatives of the victim have registered a complaint against Haldar,” said DCP (North) Pallab Kanti Ghosh.
Trouble began when a few children, including De’s son Saumilla, were playing cricket near Haldar’s house on Tuesday. During the match, one of them accidentally hit the ball to his garage. He allegedly abused the children when they requested him to return the ball and chased Saumilla away. When locals intervened, he asked the children to return on Wednesday.
In the morning, the children again went to him but Haldar again threatened them. De reached the spot and requested him to return the ball. Haldar abused him in front of the locals. A humiliated De complained of chest pain and collapsed. He was taken to hospital where he died.
