Though flood control officers have expressed satisfaction over the flood control measures in the city, the Dhussi Bandh near Kherabet can submerge a huge area, if relief measures are not undertaken soon. The water pressure has crushed the barriers, which have been constructed to stop running water below the bridge from spilling over. Though the maintenance contractor has employed a few people to control the water pressure, information reveals that the sand bags at the barricade are being washed away in the torrent. Residents of more than 30 villages are now in danger of being submerged. Apparently, district officials had visited this site a week ago and had announced that stones will be placed to strengthen the barriers, but till date, nothing has reached the site. Villagers are also peeved that the relief exercises were not done at least 2 months ago. They have now expressed fear that the heavy volume of water might weaken the already weak Bandh. Inderpreet Kahlon, flood control room in-charge, however said: “All the points are safe and there is nothing to worry.”
