Mumbai, August 18: The Indian rupee fell to its lowest level against the US dollar in more than 17 months on Monday, weakened by a falling stockmarket and some strength in the US currency.

At 4:36 p.m., the partially convertible rupee was at 43.51/52 per dollar, a level it last tested on April 2, 2007, down 1.2 per cent from Thursday's close of 43.01/02. Markets were closed on Friday for a holiday.
