Lucknow, August 21: Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday termed parties opposing the Indo-US nuclear deal as guilty of treason.

“We extended unconditional support to the central government on the Indo-US nuclear deal in the national interest and those who opposed it are guilty of treason as their action was against the interest of the country,” Yadav told the Assembly while speaking on a question of propriety moved by senior party colleague Mata Prasad Pandey.

Deflecting charges that his government had discriminated against Opposition members, the former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly said safeguarding the national interest was supreme to him and his party.

The Samajwadi Party president also accused the Mayawati government of spending crores on erecting memorials while ignoring development.
