Lucknow, August 21 The World-bank funded UP Health System Development Project (UPHSDP), in collaboration with Remote Sensing Applications Centre (RSAC), will develop an online map of state’s health facilities. Recently, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between them.

The online map will feature all listed government and private health facilities, hospitals, and healthcare related NGOs. People can also get information of the hospital like infrastructure, doctors, staff and other associated data.

The project, however, is yet to get approval from the government. “The fundamental objective of our project is to combine all information on healthcare facilities in the state with location information,” said a senior scientist of RSAC.

Primarily intended to aid the rural population, the online map is also expected to be a comprehensive portal into the healthcare infrastructure. The tool will be developed by integrating the demographic data with locations of health facilities. This has been made possible by Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

GIS uses satellites to generate large-scale maps of cities, states and even continents.

For this project, the medically relevant data will be collated by UP HSDP, while the scientists at the RSAC will create a map of the state-wide transport network connecting all health facilities. Updated satellite data using 28 available scenes from RSAC’s satellite imagery database will be integrated into the map. UP HSDP will own the map make it available over the Internet.
