Sarul, Gurkeerat propel Chandigarh

Chandigarh, October 11 Continuing with his scoring spree, opener Sarul Kunwar made a brilliant 84 run for Chandigarh and was involved in a 99 run partnership with Gurkeerat in the first semi-finals of the Katoch Shield Tournament being held at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Batting first, Chandigarh team was all out for 273 runs in 94.2 overs. Apart from Sarul and Gurkeerat, Gaurav Gambhir and Uday Kaul were the main contributors with knocks of 43 and 29 runs respectively. For Mohali, Jaskaran Singh claimed four wickets while Gunjit Singh and Varun Khanna bagged two wickets each.

In the second semi-final, Amritsar team was bowled out for a paltry 129 runs in 46 overs. Medium pacer Deepak Bansal and Gagandeep Singh tormented the Amritsar batsmen with their incisive bowling. Deepak Bansal bagged five wickets while Gagandeep scalped three wickets. Mayank Sharma (29) and Bharat Loomba (27) were the only noteworthy batsmen to show some resistance. Ludhiana's batting also collapsed due to some fine bowling performance by Bharat Loomba and Sumeet Sharma as the score read 55 for 5 at one point of time. Then Ankur Kakkar played a captain's knock along with Bharat Malhotra as the two were involved in a 62 run partnership for the sixth wicket to take the score towards a healthy 117 for 5 in 47 overs.
