Kolkata, November 16 Protesting against the poor quality of food and erratic timings of meals, patients of the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) refused to eat their lunch on Sunday.

Around 1:30 pm, when lunch was served in all the wards of the hospital, patients of the Rammohan ward refused to eat saying that the lunch time was scheduled at 11:30 am. They also criticised the hospital authorities on the poor quality of food.

“This is a regular practice in the hospital. We are served breakfast quite early, and by 11.30, which is the scheduled time for lunch, we all feel hungry. However, lunch is never served before 1.30 pm,” said Robin Makal, a patient.

Relatives of the patients also voiced their concern over the timing for serving lunch.

Hospital authorities, however, said that lunch is delayed on Sundays as the hospital staff cleans the wards.

Authorities also met the protesting patients and their relatives, who submitted a written complaint to the medical college superintendent. Later, patients agreed to have lunch around 3 pm.
