NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 21 India will send a team of security officials for a detailed security evaluation ahead of the Indian cricket team’s Pakistan tour, scheduled to begin on January 5, and will decide on the fate of the proposed trip within the next two weeks, sources said here on Friday.

The possibility of a third-country venue, in case the security evaluation is negative, was not ruled out either.

“We don’t want to pre-judge the situation there, but we are risk-averse in this case and our tolerance for risk is very low in this situation,” a source said.

Sources said the BCCI has approached the Indian government and the process for security evaluation will begin now. “We will do a professional evaluation of the situation there before coming to any conclusion.

“The risk is not worth running (in case of an adverse evaluation report),” the source said, adding “can you imagine what will happen if there is even a scratch to Sachin Tendulkar?”

Pakistan haven’t played a single Test in 2008 after Australia pulled out of their tour due to security concerns.
