Mohali engineer drowns near Goa

Mohali A Mohali-based engineer and two of his colleagues, residents of Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur, drowned at a beach in Ratnagiri in Maharashtra, nearly 254 kilometres from Goa on Friday evening.

Aseem Gill, 24, a resident of Phase 3B2, had been working with Infosys in Pune for over a year.

DPS Gill, the victim's father, is a retired Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation Limited (PSIDC) official.

He left for Goa to claim the body soon after receiving the news. Aseem is survived by his parents and a younger brother.

Their neighbour and Residents' Welfare Association president P S Khaira told Newsline that according to preliminary information available with the family, Aseem was part of an 11-member Infosys engineers' group that went on a sightseeing and excursion tour to Goa. On Friday evening, Aseem and two of his colleagues went deep into the water despite warnings by their team members. A sudden strong wave of water swept the three, eyewitnesses told the family.

Khaira said Aseem's father is expected to reach Mohali with the body on Sunday.

The victim was an alumnus of St. John's School in Chandigarh and did his engineering from the Institute of Engineering and Techynology in Bhaddal near Ropar.

His mother is a lecturer at MCM DAV College in Sector 36, Chandigarh.
