It may be recalled that the Government of Rajasthan had reportedly imposed a ban on the sale and purchase of the eye drops and other medicines after its use had led to severe infection in a large number of patients during an eye camp a few days back. As per information, a mobile unit of the health department of Rajasthan had organised an eye camp in which medicines and related surgical apparatus of three companies, including Baddi-based Health Biotech Pharmaceutical, had been used.
However, after getting treatment, a large number of patients had complained about the infection and allergy. Soon after this, the Government of Rajasthan had flashed messages to all state governments, requesting to initiate necessary measures to stop the use, including freezing of the stock, of the medicines.
After receiving the communication, authorities of the state drug department recalled the entire stock of the medicine in question and imposed a ban on its sale and purchase till the completion of the inquiry, entrusted to Baddi Assistant Drug Controller Ravinder Chaudhary and Drug Inspector Garima Sharma. The authorities have also lifted samples of pre-filled syringes of the solution for laboratory analysis.
“Our government has withdrawn the permission for manufacturing the eye drops and suspended the product licence till further orders,” said Health Minister Dr Rajeev Bindal.
He said since prime facie it appeared to be a serious offence and if the samples of the drug in question are found sub-standard or beyond the prescribed norms, the licence of the product would be cancelled forthwith.
